Military discounts for hotels?
Question by Lena: Military discounts for hotels?
Does anyone have more coagulated information then “Try getting through the hotels” about combatant discounts? I’m appearing for locations in Des Moines, Iowa but I think most better chains proffer on all locations. I’ve sought contacting the hotels and couldn’t really get any solid information. Thanks!

Most chains proffer a “government rate” that is usually equal to the AARP discount, or AAA rate. Most will give that (on request) to any northern, state or localised government employee with identification. Motel 6 does not. I have no idea of why you cannot get a coagulated answer. Perhaps you are inquiring the improper question

In my experience getting a military discount isnt always the cheapest route to go. There are these hotel coupon books you can usually pick up at Dennys restaurant. So far they have been the best deal for us. The last time we traveled and stayed at about 5 different hotels and all of them were cheaper with the coupon than the military discount would have been. So shop around and ask about all discounts not just military.
each hotel sets their own guideline. based on occupancy and season many will offer a Per diem rate.. but that is tied directly to the actual per diem rate paid while on orders and is NOT a discount per se. It is generally off of rack rate anyway.. and NOBODY pays rack rate any more.
in fact more often than not AAA is a better rate than asking for a military discount.
Go to chain hotel’s web site.
Well, the “call and find out” is the only reliable answer:
Some well known hotels I’ve stayed at for cheap because of my service:
Disneyland (on site and at “stroval’s” holiday inn, next to Disneyland)
Disney world
The Military resort in Hawaii
When you call, be careful and make sure it’s not the government rate (per diem) sometimes they’ll make it artificially higher. Other than that military and AAA are usually about the same. I say make your offer and see if they can match. Managers can have 15-30% influence on the room rate.
Des Moines Iowa, who the heck vacations in Des Moines. You must really be into corn or something.
Most large hotel chains offer a government rate which is the same as a military member. It is about 10% at most places. My fiance and I use these discounts whenever we travel.
I have found that often my AAA saves more. I’m staying at a Hampton now; here the military discount kicked the h@$% out of the AAA rate. I’m thinking it is up to each individual hotel.
