Whether you are planning vacation for next summer or a last minute get away today, it helps to get advice from people who have been there. Everyone has their own ideas about the best places to go, and attractions to see. We have in common, the all-important search for three travel experiences. They are adventure, comfort, and saving money and we look for valuable tips on travel news, flight reviews, and airline reviews, to get happily on our way!

Travel news:

Top Spots for Hot Travel Destinations in 2008:

Hawaii-

The Aloha State offers an island paradise of white sand beaches, volcanoes to explore, and beautiful natives in grass shirts. You may think a trip to the Hawaiian Islands is out of your reach. Hawaii has available discount lodging, and this spot of natural beauty has the most stunning views for free! Use travel sites to locate bargain hotels. For no extra charge, you can hike to hidden mountain waterfalls, or sunbath on secluded beaches.

Italy-

Italy places first as the most popular international destination for vacation packages and tours, year after year, according to annual polls of tour companies. Italy well deserves this title. If the scenery does not charm you, the warm Italians will. Italy is treasured for lovers of art, history, and the greatest love, the food! As you leave Italy, it feels like leaving family.

Flight reviews:

Airlines are reducing fuel costs by eliminating some hubs across the nation. This may result in more stops added to your travel plans or premium rates for a direct flight. Large cities in the US have already reduced services and many other cities are changing their fall air service schedule.

Airlines have added surcharges to the ticket price. United Airlines began charging $25 for a second bag to be checked. American Airlines announced a $15 charge for the FIRST bag. Small charges may be added for a window seat or isle seat. That rather squeezes us in the mid-section. The best advice is to pack as lightly as you can.

Airline reviews:

Qantas: This airline is based in Australia, nicknamed “the flying kangaroo”. In 2007, Qantas was voted the fifth best airline in the world complied from research data. They held second place in 2005 and 2006.

The airline seats are comfortable, and booking is a breeze. The flight attendants are friendly, and very professional. Qantas also has a rewarding frequent flyer program. Qantas flies in and out of all major hubs, including International airports in the United States.

British Airways. This airline provides a good bargain in overseas travel. The staff is welcoming and attentive to the passengers needs. They do seem to have timely issues with in flight entertainment working properly. An all-important necessity on long flights with children. Overbooking and crowded flights have contributed to some disgruntled customer reviews.

Travel tips and travel planning in your pocket: introducing Dopplr for iPhone

Dopplr is proud to introduce Dopplr – The Social Atlas for iPhone. There are lots of travel guides for mobile phones, but Dopplr’s is different because everything on it has been created by the smart travellers who use Dopplr.
Over the past couple of years, these travellers have been helping Dopplr to build a thing they call “the Social Atlas”. It is the combined wisdom of these frequent travellers, people who know a good hotel, a nice restaurant, and an interesting place to explore when they see one.
Wherever anyone is in the world, he/she can call up his/hers current location and find the nearest places that Dopplr travellers have recommended. If the person is hungry, open the app and find a cafe. If he/she is tired, it will help him/her locate the nearest hotel. And if the person has got time to kill, find something interesting to see or experience.
The app is not just a view of the atlas, it is also a means of adding new places to the database. By just tapping the blue locator, it would allow people to enter the details of the fantastic new bar they are standing in. Travel tips are added to what Dooplr know already, and automatically shared with fellow travellers.
People do not even need to be on Dopplr to use the iPhone app. If iPhone users are simply doing some travel planning for a forthcoming business trip or family getaway, there is plenty of useful information built-in, including Dopplr’s recommendations for 250 of the world’s most popular cities. Any places added will be stored on the iPhone, so these can be easily found again when needed. And if the user joins Dopplr at a later date, all those new places will be uploaded and added to the Social Atlas.
If the user is a Dopplr traveller, he/she can keep an eye on his/hers fellow travellers with the iPhone too. Check where friends are now, and where they will be going next. Look for co-incidences, where people might all be in the same place at the same time. And stay in touch, by sending messages to them directly from inside the app.
This is just the start. Dopplr is already working on more features for the app, which will appear in future updates. The app can be downloaded for free by following the link on the iTunes App Store.

Dopplr is a service for smart travellers. Dopplr members share travel plans privately with people they trust, and exchange tips on places to stay, eat and explore in cities around the world.

USFS Travel Plan / Ramona Falls Hike ’07 BARK for Mt. Hood August 2007

Posted January 26th, 2012 by libertees and filed in Travel

USFS Travel Plan / Ramona Falls August 12th, 2007 BARK Hike Leader: Amy Harwood BARK Volunteer: Katie Chipko bark-out.org http In the Pacific Northwest OHVs are a big problem, but pale in comparison to the damage being done by a crumbling road network. The Mt. Hood Travel Plan Must Address Roads: The current Travel Plan proposal introduced by the Forest Service in May is to create six new Off-Highway Vehicle play areas around the mountain, totaling over 50000 acres. This would render OHV use in all other areas of the forest illegal, an improvement over the current situation, in which OHV use is legal in all areas unless specifically prohibited. However, the current proposal falls short for three reasons: 1) The Forest Service is sacrificing far too much of the forest to an activity that is incompatible with other uses. Other recreationists, not to mention wildlife, dont want to use areas surrounded by noisy OHVs. And since only about 1% of the demand on Mt. Hood is from OHV users, why are they getting 5% of the forest? 2) Without law enforcement, the system wont work. Mt. Hood has only five law enforcement officers for its 1.1 million acres. 3) The Forest Service proposal ignores the fastest growing problem in the forest: thousands of miles of old logging roads are fragmenting wildlife habitat, eroding into streams, and need to be obliterated. At the same time, roads that lead to recreation destinations are being neglected. Please join us! bark-out.org
